Mrs. Josephine Christine (Ham) Lide

On Sunday, February 18, 2024, Mrs. Josephine Christine Ham Lide, of Darlington, passed from time to eternity.

Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Josephine Christine Ham Lide, of Darlington, will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 400 South Main Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

Interment will follow at Baptist Cemetery (North View) Roughfork Street, Florence, SC 29506.

Public viewing will be Friday, February 23, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family hour from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Washington and Charlotte C. Jordan Memorial Chapel, 108 Lee Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

Mrs. Josephine Christine Ham Lide, daughter of the late Preston and Josephine Robinson Ham, was born October 4, 1931 in Florence, SC. She departed this life to receive her Heavenly Rewards on Sunday, February 18, 2024 in McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

Mrs. Lide received her  education in the Florence County Public schools, graduating from Wilson High School class of 1951. She continued her education at: Benedict College in 1955 with a BA in Math; North Carolina Central University in 1966 with a MS in Education.

Mrs. Lide was united in marriage to Walter Clifton Lide, Jr. on April 7, 1962.

Her employment career spanned over 32 years of service in the Darlington County School District as a Math Teacher. 

She joined and was baptized at Savannah Grove Baptist Church in Effingham, South Carolina  at and early age and later joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, South Carolina.     

She was affiliated with many organization including Alpha Pi Chi Sorority, Inc., Pride of Darlington OES Chapter #88, and The Women’s Business Club.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.   

 She leaves to mourn her precious memories: a son, Walter C. (Stephanie) Lide, III; a grandson, Captain Bradley C. (Jacquetta) Lide of Gurnee, IL; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bakari and Jamila Lide of Gurnee, IL; nieces and nephews, Charlie Paul Henderson, Mary Mosley Dixon, Larry (Angela) Mosley, Mary Smoot, Janice Abrams, Mattie Addison, James (Carolyn) Ham, Jr., and Gregory Nowlin; a host of grand nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.      

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Preston and Josephine Robinson Ham; husband, Walter C. Lide, Jr.; siblings, Blanche Abrams, Lela James, Leola Ham, Unceal Mosley, Cecil Ham, and James Ham.
