Homegoing celebration for, Mrs. Lois L. McPhail Wingate Copeland, of Darlington, will be Friday, June 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM at New Hopewell Baptist Church, 3500 New Hopewell Road, Darlington, SC 29540. Interment in the Church Cemetery.

Public viewing will be Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, with a family hour from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Washington and Charlotte C. Jordan Memorial Chapel, 108 Lee Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

“God saw the road was getting rough, the hills too hard to climb, so He gently closed her eye, and whispered, “Peace Be Thine”. You slipped away so quietly without telling us good-bye, but with God’s help, we’ll meet in our home up in the sky. Mrs. Lois Copeland was born in Darlington County to the late Hugh J. and Lina M. McPhail. She entered her final resting place on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence S. C. She attended and graduated from Darlington County Public Schools. Early in life, she was converted and joined the New Hopewell Baptist Church and was a faithful member until the Pandemic of  2019.  Also during the early years of her membership, she played for the choir and was the church musician. While Mrs. Copeland worked short periods at GE, Legg’s and Nytronics Manufactory, her passion was delivering newspapers for the Florence Morning News. She faithfully delivered newspapers until 2017.Mrs. Copeland was a loving, caring person always giving and willing to help in anyway she could. She was married to Mr. Charles Leroy Wingate Sr. and to this union seven children were born. She leaves to cherish her memories six children, Charles Wingate Jr. (Gwen) of Florence, SC. Wanda Wingate of Darlington, SC; Cecil Wingate Sr. (Jackie) of Florence, SC; Faulves Arthur (William) of Churchland, Virginia; Cadmar Wingate of Darlington, SC and Krystal Wingate Chesapeake, Virginia. One sister-in-law, Vernita Wingate Thomas; one brother-in-law, Wilbur Wingate. 18 Grandchildren and 11Great Grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Herbert Copeland, her brothers and sisters, Gertrude McPhail; Faulves McPhail; Alphonsa Sparks; Hugh McPhail Jr; Lide McPhail and Elwell McPhail. Charles Leroy Wingate Sr; her son Clyde Everette Wingate; Daughter-in-law, Lee Doris Wingate and granddaughter Curtisha “Birdie” Wingate.
